OnlyReelFans is a podcast series that acts as a movie club, and much more. At the start of the pandemic, Karen Twins Productions founders, Dillon Antonius Bentlage and Brian Reilly, formed a monthly movie club where they’d pick a theme (genre, actor, director, etc.) and take the month to watch a set of movies that fell under the theme. Once the month ended, they would do a call to discuss what they watched. After a couple of months of doing this, they decided to turn the movie club into a podcast. Now, everyone can tune in to listen to Dillon, Brian, and special guests virtually gather to do a fun, semi-deep dive into the films they watch each month.
In this episode, Brian speaks with Simon Kincade and Luis Nario-Malberg to discuss a handful of films that "fell through the cracks" of a typical film watchlist created by Dillon. The list consists of: 12 Years a Slave, First Man, Doctor Sleep, Inherent Vice, Manchester By the Sea, Call Me By Your Name, The Lost City of Z, and Honey Boy. Most of these films are labeled "Oscar bait" and the trio spends this episode discussing which ones worked and which ones failed.
